CHATSWORTH, CA — A 27-year-old motorcyclist who died when excessive speed caused his bike to rear-end a pickup on the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway near the Los Angeles/Ventura county line was publicly identified Monday.

The crash occurred about 11:20 p.m. Saturday on the westbound 118 Freeway east of Rocky Peak Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Chavez was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the No. 4 lane of traffic, where he was pronounced dead at the scene about 20 minutes later.
