Body Found In Days-Old Chatsworth Crash, But Dog Is Found Alive

Though the motorist died in the crash sometime in the last few days, a dog managed to survive and was rescued by firefighters Monday.

CHATSWORTH, CA — A body was discovered at a crash scene over the side of an embankment in Chatsworth Monday morning, the Los Angeles Fire Department announced. The crash is believed to be days old, and though the motorist died in the crash, a dog managed to survive and was rescued by firefighters.

The crash was reported at about 10:30 a.m. in the 22400 block of West Santa Susana Pass Road, said Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"Firefighters found a vehicle over the side of Santa Susana Pass Road, with one occupant, driver, deceased. One canine was located in or near the vehicle (and) appears to be in good condition," Prange said. "Firefighters are conducting a wider search of the area, but so far no additional patients have been located."

The dog was taken into the care of animal service officials, and authorities did not immediately release the identity of the crash victim. Crews continued to search for other victims or survivors in the surrounding area.

It wasn't immediately clear how long ago the driver crashed, and the Los Angeles Police Department was called in to investigate.
