Body Found In Northridge House Fire
The cause of the fire and the 80-year-old victim's cause of death remain under investigation.
NORTHRIDGE, CA — The body of a man in his 80s was found at the scene of a fire Monday at a home in Northridge.
Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at a home 17000 block of West Knapp Street just before 6:30 a.m. Monday. They found a home with smoke billowing from the rear were the contents of a converted garage were on fire, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
It took 26 firefighters just 13 minutes to put out the blaze, and in the process, they found the body.

"During fire attack, they found a lifeless adult male within the garage conversion," said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. "Beyond medical help, he was determined dead, and remains at the scene. No other injuries reported. Fire cause under active investigation. No further details."
Authorities did not released the man's identity nor hos cause of death. The fire remains under investigation.

"There was no immediate evidence of the home being equipped with functional smoke alarms as required by law. The 47 year-old structure was not equipped with optional residential fire sprinklers," added Humphrey. "A positive identification of the decedent, as well as the specific cause, time and manner of his death, will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Monetary loss from the fire is still being tabulated. The fire's cause remains the focus of an active Los Angeles Fire Department investigation."
