Boy Killed By Hit And Run Driver In North San Fernando Valley

Police arrested a 22-year-old North Hills man on suspicion of murder.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A 22-year-old North Hills man is in custody on suspicion of murder in the hit-and-death of a 15-year-old boy in Sun Valley over the weekend, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Monday.

The fatal crash happened Saturday night at about 11 p.m. on Strathern Street where a driver lost control and struck several parked vehicles, pushing the parked cars into the teenager who was in the roadway at the time, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

" A 2007, Cadillac, SUV, silver in color, was traveling recklessly at a high rate of speed eastbound Strathern Street when it lost control and hit several parked vehicles, and a pedestrian walking on the roadway," according to the LAPD. "Debris from the violent collision hit a second pedestrian who was also walking on the sidewalk. The driver and sole occupant of the Cadillac exited his vehicle momentarily then fled the scene on foot."

Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics rushed both victims to a nearby hospital, but the teen died from his injuries. His name was being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Through witness interviews, detectives later identified Joseph Delgado as the driver. He was arrested and booked at Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of murder.
