Brush Fire Breaks Out Amid Santa Ana Winds And Heat In Shadow Hills
With the help of airdrops, crews doused a brush fire in the Hansem Dam area.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A brush fire broke out in the Hansem Dam area Wednesday afternoon, scorching nearly an acre before firefighters were able to douse the flames.
The blaze broke out at about 1:30 p.m. in the 11400 block of West Sheldon Street, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange. With humidity low and wind and temperatures spiking, firefighters initiated "a fire attack by ground and air," Prange said.
"It took 47 firefighters 20 minutes to surround the final one-acre burn footprint, stopping all forward progress," he said. "Crews will remain on scene to improve containment lines and cool all hot spots within the one-acre burn area."
