Brush Fire Put Out Near Lake Balboa In Sepulveda Basin

Crews extinguished a brush fire that broke out Saturday afternoon near Lake Balboa, sending a large plume of smoke into the air.

LOS ANGELES, CA — It took firefighters about an hour and 20 minutes Saturday to put out a brushfire near a model-plane airpark near Lake Balboa in the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys.

The fire was reported at 3:06 p.m. in about an acre of medium vegetation in the 5600 block of North Woodley Avenue, said the Los Angeles Fire Department's Nicholas Prange. It sent a large plume of smoke into the air, visible in the surrounding neighborhoods.

The flames were out at 4:25 p.m. after the fire consumed four acres. No structures were damaged by the slow-moving fire pushed by light winds, Prange said.
