The Oakridge Estate

The Oakridge Estate at 18650 Devonshire Blvd. in Northridge has a tour planned for Saturday, April 25 at 10am.&nbsp; Docents will lead the 75 minute tour of the home built for Barbara Stanwyck in 1937.&nbsp; She bought the land with her agent Zeppo Marx and they built homes there and started a horse ranch called Marwyck, a combination of their names.&nbsp; After she married Robert Taylor she sold the house in 1941 to Jack Oakie who renamed it Oakridge.&nbsp; There is a rich history to learn about this historical landmark.&nbsp; Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.Advanced registration is required and available at http://www.theOakridgeEstate.org.&nbsp; Admission is $18 per person.&nbsp; Please arrive 10 minutes prior to check-in.&nbsp; Parking is up the hill at the driveway east of the park entrance.

The Oakridge Estate at 18650 Devonshire Blvd. in Northridge will show The Lady Burlesque starring Barbara Stanwyck on Saturday, April 25 at 1pm.&nbsp; The film was made in 1943 and directed by Wild Bill Wellman.&nbsp; He directed her in 4 more movies and directed Jack Oakie in 4.&nbsp; He won the Academy Award for directing A Star is Born in 1937.&nbsp; The Lady Burlesque was inspired in part by the marriage of Barbara and Frank Fay.&nbsp; You can register at http://www.TheOakridgeEstate.org.&nbsp; Donations are appreciated.

Poet and playwright Bob Gossom brings back his acclaimed film Versified! The Human Equation for a limited encore streaming, blending contemporary poetry, motion, music, and storytelling to close National Poetry Month.
The film streams from 3 p.m. PT April 30 to 9 p.m. PT May 3 at bobgossom.com/film-viewing.
Adapted from Gossom’s acclaimed poetry collection The Human Equation, now in its expanded third edition, the production explores vulnerability, humor, contradiction and the shared experiences that connect people across generations and backgrounds.
First staged in Los Angeles, Versified! The Human Equation evolved from a live ensemble production, praised by reviewer Javier Ronceros for its performers who embody “dozens of characters in a dance of the human condition.”
This encore not only marks the shift from National Poetry Month to Mental Health Awareness Month, but also highlights poetry’s ongoing power for reflection and emotional wellness.
“Poetry has always been a place where people can process what they’re going through, often before they have language for it,” Gossom said. “It creates space to reflect and begin to heal.”
Writer, actor and director Levy Lee Simon praised Gossom’s distinctive voice and range.

The production has received multiple honors, including Best Adaptation from the SoCal Film Awards in 2025, Best Original Idea from the Top Indie Film Awards in 2026, and Best Ensemble Cast from the Bare Bones International Film Festival in 2026. It also earned nominations for Best Writing and Best Editing.

The Oakridge Estate at 18650 Devonshire Blvd. in Northridge will host Dennis Liff on Sunday, May 3.He will talk about his research on "Movie History of the North Valley."&nbsp; He is a movie location researcher based in the San Fernando Valley.&nbsp; He runs the Iverson Movie Ranch Blog which is focused on filming in Chatsworth.&nbsp; He covers film locations in the San Fernando Valley, Conejo and Simi Valley.&nbsp; The 1923 silent film 3 Ages starring Buster Keaton which was filmed in part at the Iverson Ranch in Chatsworth will then be shown.&nbsp; ASL interpreters will be available.Advanced registration is required and available at http://www.TheOakridgeEstate.org.&nbsp; Admission is $12 per person.&nbsp; Parking is up the driveway east of the park entrance.

A Faery Hunt shows are interactive, immersive performances designed for young audiences &amp; families to inspire creativity, imagination &amp; fun. 
We'll go on a gentle quest through the forest to find the faeries in this lovely, immersive and musical adventure! What a great way to get the kids outside with the whole family. Perfect for ages 2-10, boys and girls, and the young-at-heart. Many children come in costume. Wings, garlands, wands, wizard hats &amp; CD's of the Faery hits from our award-winning shows are available for sale at the show.
After the show, get close and personal with&nbsp;the farm animals.&nbsp; You will be guided in small groups&nbsp;by the farm's docents.
Groups and parties are welcome!
