CASA Looks to Northridge to Volunteer to Help Foster Youth

At present, there are nearly 30,000 children in LA County foster care. This means at any given time, a Los Angeles judge may be responsible for making life-changing decisions for as many as 600-800 children.

Research indicates that infants and toddlers in foster care are at high risk of negative and long-term consequences on all aspects of development. Many of these children will likely join the overwhelming 70 percent of California’s prison system that have spent time in foster care.

CASA of Los Angeles is actively working to change these statistics. Each year, CASA/LA recruits, screens and trains volunteers who become advocates for children placed in the foster care system. CASA volunteers act as the point of contact between the children and the court, and help each child to develop as an independent and successful human being. They are truly a life-changing presence, making an impact that can dictate a child’s future.

CASA will be coming to Northridge on June 9th to host a volunteer information session for those interested in donating their time to help foster children in need.
