Sports run deep in Chatsworth, and Chatsworth High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Chancellors uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Chatsworth High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.


1. Gennifer Brandon – WNBA Player (Chicago Sky)

Chatsworth High School standout Gennifer Brandon went on to star at the University of California, where she became one of the most accomplished players in program history, earning McDonald’s All-American honors and multiple All-Pac-12 selections. Known for her scoring ability and physical presence in the post, she was selected in the second round of the 2014 WNBA Draft and played professionally with the Chicago Sky. 2. Matt Cassel – NFL Quarterback & Football Analyst (New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs)

Matt Cassel was a multi-sport standout at Chatsworth High School before continuing his football career at USC, where he served as quarterback during a dominant era for the Trojans. Drafted by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft, he went on to play 14 seasons in the NFL and even earned a Pro Bowl selection with the Kansas City Chiefs. 3. Andre David – MLB Outfielder & Coach (Minnesota Twins)

A Chatsworth High School alumnus, David excelled in baseball before continuing his career at Cal State Fullerton, where he was part of a nationally recognized program. He went on to play in Major League Baseball with the Minnesota Twins, highlighted by a home run in his first major-league at-bat, and later built a lengthy career in professional baseball as a coach and instructor. 4. Steve Hug – Olympic Gymnast

Former Chancellor Steve Hug emerged as one of the top American male gymnasts of the late 1960s and early 1970s, representing the United States in international competition and at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Known particularly for his strength on the pommel horse and rings, he later earned induction into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame in recognition of his competitive achievements. 5. Deshawn Stephens – Professional Basketball Player (Treviso)

Stephens played at Chatsworth High School before competing collegiately for San Diego State, where he developed into a reliable frontcourt presence for the Aztecs. After college, he pursued a professional basketball career overseas, competing in top European leagues and continuing his career with Treviso in Italy. (Sources: Go Aztecs, Proballers)
