Chatsworth Brush Fire: Firefighters Put Out Spot Fires Overnight

CHATSWORTH, CA — Firefighters worked through the night to douse hot spots and clear vegetation around a brush fire near the communities of Chatsworth and Porter Ranch that was fueled by high winds, scorched about seven acres of grass and was 75 percent contained.

The fire was reported at 3:28 p.m. Sunday near 11200 Porter Ranch Drive, south of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Firefighters stopped the forward progress of the blaze by 4:30 p.m., Humphrey said.

The department dispatched 140 firefighters and used water drops in their battle to stop this fire, he said. Hand crews from Los Angeles County Fire Department and Angeles National Forest assisted.

No structures were threatened and no injuries reported, he said.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation but it's area of origin was determined at or near a homeless encampment in the vicinity of the freeway, Humphrey said.
