Chatsworth Girls' Come Up Short in Tennis Quarterfinal
The Chancellors lose to undefeated Marshall in City playoff action at Griffith Park.

Chatsworth High's girls' tennis team gave undefeated Marshall of L.A. a real scare Wednesday.
But in the end, the Chancellors could not pull off an upset, losing 4-3 in the City Section quarterfinals at Griffith Park.
"I figured it could go either way," Chatsworth head coach Mark Bautista said. "We were almost in the final four. Just one match away."

After upsetting fourth-seeded LACES in the first round last week, the Chancellors nearly managed the feat against the Northern League champions. But they were unable to get any momentum in singles, losing all four matches for all of Marshall's winning points.
Not even a clean sweep in doubles helped. It was similar to last week's playoff victory, where the Chancellors swept doubles yet managed to scratch out a point in singles and win the match.

This time it didn't happen. The Chancellors best chance at a singles victory came from No. 2 player Paula Anzenberg, who lost 7-5, 6-4 to Maya Ramos.
"Paula fought hard," Bautista said. "I thought she would be able to pull it out. But it was a tough match. There's a couple of points that could have gone either way. We could have won that first set. We could have won that second set. It's just one of those things."
On the doubles' side, the tandems of Victoria Kellkidis/Danielle Nguyen, Dana Cheng/Giselle Junio and Iris La/Ann Tran all won.
Kellkidis and Nguyen got the job done in a 10-point tiebreaker, winning 6-4, 5-7 and 10-6.
The Chancellors conclude the season 6-9 overall, while the Eagles remain a perfect 12-0.
Bautista notes the Chancellors will only lose two seniors and should be "a lot better" next season. One of those seniors is No. 1 singles player Kim Tran, who played three years of tennis for the Chancellors.
"We tried our hardest," she said. "We could be sad about it. But as long as we tried our hardest there's nothing to be disappointed about."
