Driver Slams Into Wall In Fatal Northridge Crash

Firefighters worked to free the driver from the wreckage, but it was too late to save the person.

NORTHRIDGE, CA — A driver slammed into a wall in Northridge and died after being trapped in the wreckage Friday.

The crash happened just after 8 p.m. Friday along a residential stretch of Parthenia Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange. Firefighters and Urban Search and Rescue specialists worked to free the driver, but they were unable to save the driver.

"One vehicle collided with a wall, causing the driver to be trapped," Prange said. "As crews attempted to extricate the patient, sadly, the patient was found to be deceased among the wreckage."

It wasn't clear what caused the crash or whether speed was a factor.

According to Prange, firefighters remained on the scene to help recover the body and help in the investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Authorities did not release any information about the driver killed in the crash pending notification of the victim's family.
