San Fernando Valley Historical Society Presents a Las Posadas Holiday Pageant and Celebration
Las Posadas is a reenactment of Mary and Joseph's door-to-door search for shelter in Bethlehem on the night of the Christ child's birth, culminating in finding space in a stable. At the Adobe a candlelight procession, including a live burro, follows the Holy Family on its search, with singing at each door, led by a group of local Franciscan nuns. After arriving at the stable and finding Mary, Joseph and the Christ Child, joyful songs complete the journey. A celebration by all participants awaits in the Adobe, where hot chocolate, coffee, hot apple cider and pan dulce are served.
Franciscan nuns from Mother Gertrude's Home and Povarello School will sing and play guitar throughout the procession. During the celebration the sound of music and song will resonate from the Adobe patio and a colorful piñata, filled with goodies, will explode as it is smash to smithereens by the children.
