The Orange and the California Myth

San Fernando Valley Historical Society   SFVHS's featured speaker for November is David Boulé a third-generation Californian with family history in both the southern and northern parts of the state.  David is an avid collector and amateur historian.  A degree in television production led to a career in corporate communication, advertising and public relations.  For decades he has scoured flea markets, antique stores, the Internet, libraries, museums and book shops to collect ephemera on the California citrus industry and to research how California and the orange have influenced each for over 500 years, and explore why the orange became the symbol of the California myth: an agrarian paradise.

His collection includes historic photographs, thousands of postcards, rare advertising and marketing materials, books, newspapers & press clippings, records, posters, journals and personal papers, along with many California orange-themed souvenirs and promotional items.  Materials from his collection have been featured in several exhibits, and David has written articles and given numerous presentations on the subject of "The Orange and the Myth of California" which he will present at the Adobe.  So mark your calendar for Thursday, November 18th.  Start time is 7:00 p.m.  Location is the Andres Pico Adobe Park 10940 Sepulveda Blvd., Mission Hills.  Admission is FREE as are light refreshments; donations are always appreciated.
