On Thursday, February 24 the SFVHS will present “Wagons to Hangtown” ~ A Story of the California Gold Rush. Our guest speaker is Diana M. Johnson who tells the story of her great great grandfather Edward B. Dangerfield, who in 1850 at the age of twenty-two, left Greencastle, Indiana for California. He crossed our vast, beautiful, and frequently terrifying country, assuming he would spend a year or two in California, then return home, pockets full of gold, and marry the girl he'd left behind. Well, that's not even close to what happened!
Diana M. Johnson is a fourth-generation Californian and the author of several books including "Destiny's Godchild," "Pepin's Bastard," "Quest for the Crown," "Cradle of a Nation," and "Will & Davy."
The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. Location is the Andres Pico Adobe Park, 10940 Sepulveda Blvd., Mission Hills. The program, door prize and light refreshments are FREE. Donations are accepted and always appreciated!
