​Fireworks To Blame For 2 Brush Fires Along 118 Freeway

Witnesses told the California Highway Patrol that one or more persons were seen discharging fireworks from a black van Friday night.

GRANADA HILLS, CA — Firefighters were performing containment and overhaul Saturday for two fires that burned near the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway and authorities said were caused by fireworks.

Witnesses told the California Highway Patrol that one or more persons were seen discharging fireworks from a black van, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

Firefighters were called around 8:51 p.m. Friday to the Ronald Reagan Freeway near Hayvenhurst Avenue in Granada Hills where a brush fire burned for an hour before its progress was stopped by 73 firefighters, Humphrey said.

Firefighters were called at 9:45 p.m. to a second fire that burned about a quarter-acre of brush near the freeway and Reseda Boulevard in Porter Ranch.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged at either fire, Humphrey said. The amount of acreage burned in the first fire has not been determined.
