Get prepared at the 8th Annual Valley Disaster Preparedness Fair on October 3, 2015

Everything at the family-friendly Fair is free to attendees, thanks to generous community-minded contributors. Family Emergency Preparedness (EP) Starter Kits will be distributed for free (while supplies last) to registered families. There will be giveaways, prizes, and a free lunch of hot dogs, burgers, and veggie burgers (also while supplies last). The Fair, which is the largest such event in Los Angeles, will feature demonstrations and activities including CPR, fire suppression techniques, disaster cooking, search and rescue, child ID, pet preparedness, Amateur radio emergency communications, electrical safety, emergency shelters, first aid skills, and a host of displays and exhibits. Children can experience a simulated earthquake in the Yogi Bear Shakey-Quakey School House and learn about safe behaviors and preparedness from the Red Cross Children’s Safety Puppet Show.

New this year is the Speakers Series, featuring a lineup of 30-minute talks by LAFD Capt./Paramedic Stacy Gerlich, Catastrophic Planning section of Homeland Security; renowned CalTech seismologist, Dr. Kate Hutton, recently retired; Jill Barnes, Ed.D, CEM, LAUSD Office of Emergency Services, School Operations; Tim Kneeland, wilderness survival expert and trainer; and MySafe:LA, fire and life safety education.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this informative and fun event that just might save your life, the life of a loved one, or your pet’s life. Remember that the moment a disaster occurs, the time for preparation just ended. Don’t get caught unprepared. See you at the Fair!
