According to the National Retail Federation, NFR, survey, the average family with four children in grades K-12 will spend $630.36. Specifically, back-to-school shoppers will spend an average $197.24 on electronic items, $97.74 on school supplies, $217.82 on clothes and $117.56 on shoes. Combined spending for back to school K-12 and college is expected to reach $68 billion.

NFR also found that fashion-forward teens and tweens know just how to get mom’s and dad’s attention when it comes to new school gear to make their friends stop and stare. According to the survey, 86.4 percent of school shoppers say their children will influence one-quarter or more of their back-to-school purchases.
