WEST HILLS, CA — A hiker in need of medical assistance was airlifted directly from a cliff on the El Escorpion Trail to a hospital Saturday.

The events began at 6:57 p.m. Saturday, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.

The LAFD searched from the air and ground for about 30 minutes before locating the unidentified female hiker on a cliff and a rescuer was lowered to assess and stabilize her, Lantz said.

She was located in the 6800 block of Sunset Ridge Court, at Vanowen Street, Lantz said.

"Due to the remote location and difficult ground access, a hoist operation was performed and the patient was flown directly to a local hospital," Lantz said.
