LAPD Officer Shot Responding To SFV Domestic Disturbance
The 27-year-old officer is expected to survive, and a suspect was taken into custody Friday.
PACOIMA, CA — A Los Angeles Police Department Officer was shot in the San Fernando Valley Friday morning while responding to a report of a domestic disturbance.
The 27-year-old LAPD officer suffered a gunshot wound to his hand shortly just before 8 a.m. on the 13200 block of Paxton Street near the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway in the Pacoima area, according to LAPD Public Information Officer Madison.
It was a domestic incident, the officer made contact with the suspect and put out a call for backup regarding a man creating a disturbance, Madison told Patch.

According to police, when officers arrived, they were directed to the suspect, who was in a back house. As officers entered and encountered resistance, the suspect's handgun was allegedly discharged, injuring the officer, according to an LAPD statement.
At some point in the encounter, a Taser was deployed with no effect, police said. The suspect was not struck by gunfire, and a gun was recovered.

The officer, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, the LAPD said.
The suspect was described only as a 50-year-old man. Police said he would be medically evaluated before being booked on charges to be determined by the LAPD's Force Investigation Division. Other aspects of the case were also still be investigated.
The area of Paxton Street from Herrick to Glen Oaks was impacted for several hours due to the shooting. The public was advised to use alternate routes.
