NORTHRIDGE, CA — Republican gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder stopped by Brent's Deli in Northridge Wednesday afternoon as part of a campaign bus tour that hit many cities in Southern California.

Polling as of Wednesday shows 54.3 percent of voters will vote "no" to removing Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom from office, according to FiveThirtyEight. Should he be removed, polling shows Elder leading the race for his replacement.

Elder stopped by the deli in Northridge unannounced, owner Brent Peskin said. Peskin had no idea Elder was stopping by until news trucks started pulling up to the deli, followed by Elder's giant bus and about a dozen police cars.

Elder said he has no clue why Brent's Deli was chosen as a stop on the bus tour.

Elder was in Venice just before Northridge but cut his visit short when he was met with a hostile crowd and even egged. Los Angeles Times metro reporter Julia Wick said in a Tweet that Elder was met by a "far warmer" crowd in Northridge. Wick shared a video of people cheering and one person saying "make California great again."

"It seemed like most people did support him. As he was strolling the restaurant, I didn't hear [any] 'boos' or anything like that. He seemed well received, everyone was very nice," Peskin said.

Elder cast his vote earlier Wednesday at the Fairfax Seniors Citizens Center in Los Angles.

Elder is not the first to take a campaign tour bus around California ahead of the gubernatorial election; Republican candidate John Cox was touring Northern California Wednesday and Republican candidate Kevin Faulconer wrapped up a bus tours all across California last week.
