Man Dies Trapped In Wreckage Of Chatsworth Crash

Two vehicles collided Thursday morning near Winnetka Avenue and Vanowen Street, sending a vehicle careening into the yard of a nearby home.

CHATSWORTH, CA — A young man died after becoming trapped in the wreckage of a crash in Chatsworth Thursday morning.

Shortly after 6 a.m., paramedics were called to the 8900 block of North Winnetka Avenue where a crash involving two vehicles sent one careening into a nearby yard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Winnetka Avenue and Vanowen St, sending one into the yard of a nearby home, gravely injuring and trapping that driver in the wreckage," said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey. "Despite the swift arrival of LAFD personnel, and their teamwork with power tools to disentangle him from the badly damaged vehicle, the man proved beyond medical help."

Authorities did not release the identity of the man killed, but he may have been in his 20s, according to Humphrey.

"The driver of the other vehicle sustained only minor injuries, declined offered ambulance transportation, and remains at the scene speaking to investigators," he added.

Police routed traffic away from the area as authorities investigated the fatal crash. They did not announce any arrests in connection with the crash nor identify a c cause.
