Northridge Man Escapes Shooter In Attack Captured On His Ring Camera

The homeowner told reporters he believes it was a targeted hit, but he didn't say why someone was trying to kill him.

NORTHRIDGE, CA — Police today are looking for a gunman who fired at a Northridge man in front of his home Friday evening. The shooting, and the victim's dramatic escape, were captured on the man's doorbell camera. He told reporters he doesn't believe it was a random attack.

The incident happened just after 6:30 p.m. Friday in the 9600 block of Texhoma Avenue, a quiet neighborhood on a cul-de-sac.

A Ring doorbell video captured the incident. The man appears to pull into his driveway when a dark sedan pulls over, and a masked gunman gets out and approaches the homeowner. Seeing the gunman approach, the homeowner sped out of his driveway, and the gunman fired after him.

“A gentleman jumped out from the backseat wearing a hoodie and a bandana,” the homeowner, who asked not to be named, told KTLA. “I just saw him lift up and point a black handgun with a long silencer in the front. So I closed my door right away and hit the gas and jumped the curb.”

He said he doesn't know why he was targeted, but it seems obvious someone was trying to kill him.

“The way they were casing out the house, the way they pulled up, the way they got out of the car,” he told KTLA. “They attempted to shoot at me as I was driving away and then they attempted to follow me. Thank God I was able to drive fast and get away and contact the police.”

"The suspects were gone upon arrival," Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im told Patch. "The suspect vehicle was a newer model, light brown sedan last seen heading southbound from the location."

As of Monday, there were no arrests in the case, and authorities were seeking the public's help in locating the shooter and getaway driver.

The shooter was described as a 5-foot-10 inch tall man, weighing 180 pounds. Investigators believe the weapon used in the shooting was a semiautomatic handgun.
