Pinecrest Schools Is Selling the Original Campus in Van Nuys

Displaced students could transfer to Northridge.

could see an increase in student population next year due to the sale and closure of one of the private education company's campuses.

Pinecrest Schools is selling its original campus in Van Nuys and will close the school at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, according to an announcement appearing on both the Wall Street Journal's Market Watch and Yahoo Finance websites.

Founded in 1951 as the original Pinecrest Campus, Pinecrest Van Nuys has about 400 students. During the course of the school year, administrators will be working with them to make transfer plans to one of the company's other eight campuses in Valencia, Lancaster, Canyon Country, Woodland Hills,
Northridge, Simi Valley, Moorpark and Thousand Oaks. Administrators will also help plan transfer of teachers and staff to other campuses.

According to the Pinecrest president and CEO, Jeri Dye Lynch, the school received an "extrodinary and unsolicited" offer from a real estate company for the campus property.

"The closure of our founding school is an emotional decision for all involved," Lynch said, "but we pledge to continue our legacy of delivering the highest quality education at an affordable tuition level to all of our Pinecrest families."

She went on to add that the proceeds from the sale will be used to improve facilities and enhance programs at other Pinecrest campuses.
