This week, I was the sole no vote on a City Council resolution to support Assembly Bill 2372 which could have chipped away at protection afforded to property owners under Proposition 13.
Protecting Prop 13 is vital for our local economy to ensure property taxes predictable and stable for property owners reducing upward pressure on rents. Ultimately, this stabilizes neighborhoods and keeps residents and small businesses from being driven out by unaffordable tax increases.
Without detail in the bill that would afford protections to homeowners and small business, who would inevitably have the tax increase passed on to them, this was not a palatable solution.
