Quake Rattles SoCal Tuesday Night

VENTURA COUNTY, CA — A 3.8-magnitude earthquake shook Southern California on Tuesday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, striking north of Simi Valley and east of Santa Clarita.

The quake occurred just after 8 p.m. about 2.5 miles southeast of Piru, according to the survey, and it had a depth of nearly 7 miles.

People reported feeling the quake as far as Ojai, Palmdale and Santa Barbara, according to the survey.

A 3.8-magnitude earthquake is often felt but typically causes only minor damage, according to Michigan Technological University.

Tuesday's quake followed a 3.6-magnitude tremblor Sunday morning off the coast of Hermosa Beach.
