Release Of Pepper Spray Prompts Haz-Mat Response At Valley High School
Nearly 30 people were assessed following the release of the chemical, according to the LAFD.
PANORAMA CITY, CA — Nearly 30 people were medically assessed after pepper spray was accidentally released at a San Fernando Valley high school Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to Panorama High School at around 2:30 p.m. following reports that five people were complaining of throat pain and dizziness, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A haz-mat team responded and confirmed the source of those complaints was an accidental release of pepper spray at the school. Aerial footage aired by KTLA showed numerous fire trucks and ambulances lined up outside the school.

In total, 28 patents were assessed as they sheltered in place in their classroom. It's unclear exactly how many were students.
All patents were determined to be in good or fair condition, according to the LAFD.

Authorities said there was no ongoing threat and all chemical readings had returned to normal levels.
The LAFD did not say how the pepper spray was released.
