A Northridge neighborhood was hit with one of the city's larger water main breaks that severely damaged one home.
NORTHRIDGE, CA — Work continued Thursday to repair the damage caused by a massive water main break that severely damaged a home in Northridge and flooded surrounding streets.
The early morning pipe burst sent a geyser of water shooting into the air, collapsing a garage door and jarring neighbors awake Wednesday.
The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. in the area 10900 block of Melvin Avenue Wednesday.

"I saw through the window water just flooding the street," neighbor Ricky Rocha told NBC Los Angeles. "I just came out to see if everyone was OK and called 911. Thankfully everyone outside was safe."
It took Department of Water and Power workers an hour to stop the gushing water. The burst pipe was more than 50 years old. Crews worked for hours to repair the pipe, and repairs for the property damage remain ongoing.
