Save a Dog, Save a Buck! Animal Shelter Discounts Adoptions to Free Space for Fireworks Runaways
Los Angeles animal shelters are offering a $10 pet adoptions (a discount of more than $100) to make room for 4th of July runaways.
LOS ANGELES, CA- Los Angeles city animal shelters are offering a $10 adoption rate for dogs and cats over the Fourth of July weekend, when city officials are expecting an influx of animals at shelters that are startled by fireworks and run away.
The typical adoption fees can be as much as $122 for dogs and $76 for cats. The fee of $10 is available today until Sunday, and will cover spay or neutering, vaccination and microchipping.
Councilman Mitch O'Farrell urged the public to consider adopting pets this weekend so that shelters will not need to consider euthenization.
"When shelters go beyond capacity, shelter employees must face the possibility of euthanizing these animals," he said. "Angelenos have stepped up to the plate when it comes to rescuing our four-legged companions, and I want to make sure we continue the march toward no kill shelters in the City of Angels."
Animal shelters are also offering the option of temporarily fostering the pets for four or more days, as an alternative to adoption. Fostering applications are available at each of the city's animal shelters.
