Shooting Shuts Down 405 Freeway For Second Time In Five Days

The northbound San Diego (405) Freeway remained down in the San Fernando Valley for hours Monday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — For the second time in a week, a shooting shut down the San Diego (405) Freeway in Los Angeles Monday.

The shooting was reported to the California Highway Patrol shortly before 3:30 p.m. in the Van Nuys area, and several lanes of the northbound side of the freeway remained closed through the afternoon rush hour. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.

By 5:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol has reopened one lane of traffic on the northbound 405 Freeway in Van Nuys, said CHP Officer Edgar Figueroa. As of 6:30 p.m., the carpool lane, and the left three lanes remained closed so that detectives could investigate the shooting, he said.

"When our officers arrived, there wasn't anybody on the scene," Figueroa said. However, the officers were able to determine that a shooting had taken place north of Victory Boulevard, prompting a full closure on the northbound side of the freeway.

The CHP did not immediately release any information about the shooting victim nor suspect.
