The Signs of Trend Crimes in 12th District Special Election

Any theft of election campaign signage is not a violation of a candidates First Amendment rights, because the First Amendment does not GIVE any of us the right to speak but rather protects us from Congress infringing on said speech via legislation. Article 1 of The California Constitution similarly prohibits enactment of legislation from restricting speech. We were born with free speech.

The right for each of us to own property is established within Article 1 of the California Constitution.

“All people are by nature free and independent and have inalienable rights. Among these are enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and pursuing and obtaining safety, happiness, and privacy."

Furthermore, the means for the government to protect my rights, my property, is detailed in various Penal Codes.

California Penal Code Sec 490.2 identifies petty theft, where the value of the money, labor, real or personal property taken does not exceed $950, as a misdemeanor.

So, any campaign signs placed without permission on private property, on City and State fences, on the State Highway 27 (Topanga Canyon), within the 12^th District of the Los Angles City Council are violations of State and City Codes. Candidates have been openly and blatantly violating the law over the course of the weeks during this Special Election!

Those candidates who have a blatant disregard of the law have essentially invited voters to look at Brandon Saario, the candidate who has diligently respected the property of residents and received permission to place signs on private property, because he has walked his district and reached out to over 5000 voters face-to-face at their doorstep.

However, further violation and disrespect of decency and the law has occurred as candidate signs are taken off private property. This trending tactic has been repeated over the past years, as more than one candidate has been caught and photographed while taking signs off private property and then faced legal repercussions!

We favor the election of Brandon Saario for City Council in the 12th District because

1) He respects the law.

2) He respects your opinion and your property.

3) He can address the issue of crime in the City of Los Angeles having not stolen or defaced candidate signs.

4) He can address the issues of homeless encampments reaching the point of public safety, without exaggerating his role in past solutions, nor does he have developers waiting for a return on their investment in his campaign.

5) He clearly identifies the issues and his opinion of solutions on his website
