Six Flags Magic Mountain Evacuated For Brush Fire; Roads Closed

VALENCIA, CA — A brush fire forced Six Flags Magic Mountain to evacuate Sunday, the park said. Videos posted on social media showed panicked park attendees running as a plume of smoke billowed out of orange flames.

The park tweeted that people were evacuated from both Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor.

"The safety and well being of our guests and team members is our top priority," the park wrote.

A supervising dispatcher for the Los Angeles County Fire Department told the Los Angeles Times the fire was about 2 acres to 3 acres large.

"Magic Mountain is evacuating, but they are doing it on their own," Melanie Flores told the newspaper. "We did not tell them to do this."

The city tweeted that no buildings were at risk of being destroyed. The public was warned to avoid the area, as the southbound lanes of Old Road were closed at Rye Canyon so firefighters could fight the Sky Fire.

The National Weather Service had warned that strong winds, high temperatures and low humidity could lead would bring "brief critical fire weather conditions to inland portions" of the region on Sunday.

The agency tweeted: "Weather conditions at 1 pm in the vicinity of the Sky Fire... near Magic Mountain... Temp 93F-96F, RH 10%, NE winds 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph."

The off-ramp near southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Valencia at Magic Mountain Parkway were to remain closed for 1 1/2 hours, officials said.
