Small Brush Fire Doused Along 118 Freeway In Chatsworth

Crews will continue to make sure hotspots are kept under control as a Santa Ana windstorm threatens the region.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Firefighters will continue to monitor hotspots from a small brushfire that broke out along the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway near Rocky Peak Road in Chatsworth early Tuesday morning.

The half-acre blaze broke out just before 4 a.m., and crews waged a 30-minute battle to keep it from spreading as strong winds threaten the region with extreme fire danger.

"Firefighters conducted an aggressive initial fire attack to prevent the fire from extending through the brush," according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart. "Crews have hand lines around 100% of the perimeter and will continue to address all hot spots to ensure no flare ups occur."
