Temporary High-Voltage Equipment Restores Electricity To Northridge Residents

Crews started work early to bring electricity back to more than 8,500 San Fernando Valley customers that suffered power outages overnight.

NORTHRIDGE, CA - Crews restored power to Northridge Wednesday by installing temporary high voltage equipment that spokesman said was necessary to relieve weather-related strain on the grid.

They started work early to bring electricity back to the more than 8,500 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers in the San Fernando Valley that suffered weather-related outages overnight.

By about 10 a.m., they had already cut the number of residences in the dark to 2,200, the utility reported. Of those remaining without power, 819 were in the Van Nuys area, said DWP spokeswoman Vonda Paige. Crews will be working throughout the day to complete full restoration of services, she said.

As of 2 a.m. Wednesday, 4,150 customers in Pacoima remained without power and nearly 2,000 customers in the Valley Glen area near North Hollywood.

DWP officials said heat can create strain on the grid, which contributes to outages.
