Truck Strikes Man Pushing Woman In Wheelchair, Killing Both In Sylmar

The 35-year-old driver remained at the scene and was not arrested.

SYLMAR, CA — A woman in a wheelchair and the man pushing her across the street were struck and killed in Sylmar, police announced Friday.

The crash occurred Thursday evening just before 8 p.m. on Foothill Boulevard, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Lizeth Lomeli.

"It was a Chevy Silverado heading southbound on Foothill when it collided with a male pedestrian and a female pedestrian mid-block," Lomeli said.

Paul Sanchez, 38, died at the scene, and the woman in the wheelchair was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died as well, according to police and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Her name was being withheld pending notification of her family.

"The driver remained at the scene," Lomeli explained. "The investigation is ongoing."
