Two Dead, Two Hospitalized In Monday's Canoga Park Fire

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed two people died in the Canoga Park commercial building fire Monday.

NORTHRIDGE-CHATSWORTH, CA — The Los Angeles Fire Department says two people died in that fire that burned through a commercial building containing a drug-processing operation in Canoga Park on Monday afternoon.

The remains of a person believed to be a man were found inside the gutted building, while a 28-year-old man died at a hospital, according to the LAFD. Two other people remain hospitalized — a man in his 30s in critical condition, and another man serious condition.

Firefighters sent to 8425 North Canoga Avenue about 12:20 p.m. extinguished the flames in an hour and 15 minutes, the LAFD reported.

Some possible explosions were reported from inside the single-story building as the flames raged and sent a thick plume of black smoke into the air, according to the LAFD.

About 150 firefighters were sent to the scene, transitioning into a defensive operation to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings.
