Watch: Attacker Messes With The Wrong Sisters

A Chatsworth man's violent crime spree came to an end when he attacked the Martinez-Bojorquez sisters, police said. That was his mistake.

CHATSWORTH, CA - You don’t mess with the Martinez-Bojorquez sisters. A Chatsworth man found that out when he ended a violent crime spree by randomly attacking the women inside a Sherman Oaks salon, according to police.

The sisters put up a fierce fight for their lives, and they won the battle.

Now Gustavo Aranda, 25, remains behind bars, charged with assault with a deadly weapon by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, carjacking, second-degree robbery and vandalism over $400, and a misdemeanor count of simple battery, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

According to police, Aranda walked into a Sherman Oaks salon and began punching three women inside less than two hours after he committed a violent carjacking in Van Nuys. Security footage from the salon attack shows Melda and Virginia Martinez-Bojorquez fighting him off. Now they are sharing their story of survival.

"We alternated. When he was on top of her, I came and fought with him to rescue her. And when he turned his attention to me and started attacking me, she came to my aid," one of the sisters said through a Spanish interpreter.

Rene Solis was among those who rushed to the aid of the women after a salon employee dashed out of the business to get help.

"They were battling each other with chairs and stuff, so by the time I got ... real, real in the battle, he just stopped. He just decided to stop and then at that same time, he was just mumbling, you know, 'Just kill me now,"' Solis said. "I saw how badly wounded he was so I just looked over to them (the sisters) and I was like, `Wow, I'm impressed."'

After police released footage of the salon attack, another victim came forward from a Jan. 5 attack, detectives said.

Aranda’s alleged crime spree spans a one-month period. Police believe he attacked a man as the man was driving into his parking spot at his residence in the 10000 block of Desoto Avenue in Chatsworth on Jan.5. Police said he struck again Jan. 31, when he attacked and carjacked a man in Van Nuys on the 14400 block of Gilmore Street. Aranda allegedly approached a man from behind and shouted obscenities at the victim, police said.

“In fear, the victim ran away. The suspect chased the victim and hit him repeatedly, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect forcefully removed the victim’s vehicle keys from his pocket and fled in the victim’s vehicle, a 2007 gray Toyota 4 Runner,” according to a written release by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Less than two hours later, he attacked again, police contend.

Aranda walked into the salon near the 13600 block of Burbank Blvd and began hitting the women for no reason, detectives alleged.

“The suspect punched the victims several times,” police said. “The victims were involved in an intense fight for their life with the dangerous suspect.”

In the Martinez-Bojorquez sisters, Aranda met his match.

Now he is behind bars in lieu of $230,000 bail, and is due back in a Van Nuys courtroom Feb. 16 for a preliminary hearing. He faces up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
