Watch: Video Shows Man Driving With His Feet Before Head-On Crash

Police are investigating a crash that injured 5 people minutes after a Snapchat video showed the alleged driver steering with his feet.

SAUGUS, CA — A head-on collision sent five people to the hospital in Los Angeles County Monday night and police now believe one of the drivers is the same man featured in a video posted to Snapchat showing him driving along a busy road steering with his feet moments before the crash.

The video is as shocking as the pictures of crumpled vehicles after the wreck.

In the video, a man can be seen with his hands in his lap and one foot on the steering, seemingly oblivious to the traffic in front of him. A voice can be heard in the background, narrating the scene.

"Casually just driving with your feet," laughs a woman. Minutes later both would be in the hospital, according to the mother of the 20-year-old girl who shot and posted the video.

Shaiela Phillip, the mother of the girl and of one of the other passengers in the car, is furious about what she describes as an irresponsible, alcohol-infused game.

"I was mad. I was really mad. I was mad at him being irresponsible with others lives, especially not one but two of my children," Phillips told CBSLA.

According to Phillips, her daughter said the driver had been drinking and ignoring pleas to slow down shortly before the crash. Los Angeles Sheriff's investigators have yet to confirm if alcohol was a factor nor have they confirmed if the man was driving with his feet when his SUV collided with a sedan driven by a 28-year-old Agua Dulce woman at about 10:30 p.m. Monday in Saugus.

The crash occurred on Bouquet Canyon Road north of David Way, according to Shirley Miller, public information officer for the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station.

The SUV driver, a resident of Castaic, was driving south on Bouquet Canyon Road along with two men and a woman, all between 22 and 24 years old, Miller said.

The drivers and passengers suffered moderate to severe injuries and were hospitalized, Miller said.

"Blood tests were administered to both drivers to determine if alcohol or drugs played a factor," Miller said. "Investigators are awaiting the toxicology results of the tests."

Detectives on Tuesday learned of the video, which was streamed on Snapchat by one of the passengers, Miller said.

"The video allegedly depicts the driver steering the SUV with his feet," she said. "Traffic detectives are conducting an active investigation into this incident to ascertain when the video was taken in relation to the time of the collision."

Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call (661) 255- 1121, ext. 5111, to speak with sheriff's Traffic Investigator Mark Cramer.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
