Woman Settles Suit Alleging Assault By LAFD Paramedic

NORTHRIDGE-CHATSWORTH, CA — A woman who sued the city of Los Angeles and a firefighter paramedic, alleging he sexually molested her while she was being transported to a hospital after being injured in a traffic accident in 2017, reached a settlement in her case.

Lawyers for the plaintiff, identified only as Lacy R., filed court papers on Jan. 11 with Chatsworth Superior Court Judge Melvin D. Sandvig asking that the case be dismissed.
No settlement terms were divulged.

The suit was originally filed in July 2018 in Los Angeles Superior Court, naming as defendants the city, the LAFD and paramedic German Mejia. The case was transferred in January 2020 to the Chatsworth courthouse.

Lacy R. alleged sexual battery, false imprisonment, negligence and civil rights violations. She was a passenger in a car involved in a traffic crash on July 9, 2017, and Mejia was dispatched to the scene and was in uniform when he allegedly sexually assaulted her in the rear of an ambulance en route to a hospital, the lawsuit alleged.

The woman reported the alleged attack to the city the next day, according to her complaint.

David Ring, one of the plaintiff's lawyers, previously said that no criminal charges were filed against Mejia.
