A Nation of Liars

Right now we are being treated to a debate raging in DC about the meaning of the sentence “Period.”: "If you like your health-care plan, you will be able to keep your health-care plan. Period.” Mr. Obama made this statement, or variations thereof, prior to the enactment of the ACA and continued to do so throughout the 2012 Presidential Campaign. Many who read the law prior to its passage suggested publicly that this would not be the case since its has provisions demanding medical insurance plans to include coverage not offered in the existing plans at the time; regardless, videos of Mr. Obama making these statement after such warnings were published show a man fully convinced of what he was saying and determined to convince his audience of the same. I can’t image that the man in charge of the White House Situation Room did not know that what he was saying was false, a lie.

A couple of weeks ago my daughter was involved in a freeway fender bender during commute time on stop and go traffic involving 3 cars; the car in front of her bumped a car and she bumped the car in front. All three drivers got out of their cars, agreed that none of the cars were damaged and that no one was hurt. The driver on the first car drove away without exchanging information with anyone.  The highway patrol person who attended the incident encouraged my daughter and the other driver to do the same. The other driver demurred and exchanged insurance information with my daughter. A few days later our insurance company informed us that a property damage and personal injury claim had been filed against our car insurance policy. I can see the owner of the car bumped by daughter wanting a new bumper, but a personal injury claim does not make any sense; no one was injured, not even jarred! According to the insurance person with whom I spoke the large majority of people who are rear bumped do that, the insurance companies pay the claims or settle out of court, and our insurance policies go up. The lawyers involved in this and the person making the claim get some money based on fat lies.

There you have, from our presidents on down, lies are a way of life. Is this a way to live?
