Novato officials warn of phishing scam targeting permit applicants (localnewsmatters.org) — Novato city officials are warning residents, property owners, and businesses about a phishing scam where criminals pose as city staff to demand fake permit payments. The city says it never takes permit payments by email and urges people to use only the official Permit Portal or in-person payments, and to double-check any suspicious messages claiming to be from Novato staff.
2. Older woman wanted after hit and run involving child in Novato (nbcbayarea.com) — Novato Police are asking for the public’s help after a driver in a black Mercedes allegedly hit an 8-year-old bicyclist at Vineyard Road and Sutro Avenue and then left the scene. The child suffered minor injuries, and officers are seeking witnesses, surveillance footage, or any details about the car or older female driver involved.
3. Marin fire officials say state ‘zone zero' proposal could be stronger (marinij.com) — Novato Fire Protection District leaders say California’s new “zone zero” defensible-space proposal doesn’t go far enough to match wildfire science, even as they welcome progress. Marin agencies, already investing Measure C funds in home hardening and defensible space, urge residents to prepare for stricter landscaping rules within 5 feet of homes in high fire-risk areas.
4. Sports Briefs: Madrid, Allen earn big wins at Viking Classic (marinij.com) — Novato High hurdler Elizabeth Van Alyea placed fifth in the 300 hurdles at the Viking Classic in Santa Rosa, highlighting local talent among strong Marin performances. Athletes from Terra Linda, Branson, San Rafael, Archie Williams, Marin Catholic, Redwood and other schools posted personal bests and multiple wins as track teams gear up for the postseason.
