NOVATO, CA — A Richmond man was arrested after a series of e-bike thefts plagued the Tam Valley area of Southern Marin in January, police announced Friday.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after four Tam Valley residents reported their e-bikes stolen from outside their homes or carports during January. Video footage showed one of the thefts and also provided police with a description of the suspect's vehicle.
The vehicle was determined to be a rental truck being used for Amazon deliveries and authorities said they were able to place the truck in the vicinity of the victim locations in Tam Valley.
The driver was identified as Julio Cervantes, 30, of Richmond, and police said that Cervantes had an unidentified passenger with him during the thefts.
On Thursday, Sheriff’s Detectives executed a search warrant at Cervantes’ Richmond residence. Cervantes was arrested on the spot in connection with three of the bike thefts, police said. During the search, detectives said they seized multiple bicycle frames, one of which was confirmed to belong to a Tam Valley victim.
Cervantes was booked into the Marin County Jail on multiple counts of Grand Theft and Conspiracy. He is currently being held on $10,000 bail. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office stated that the case remains under investigation.
