MARIN COUNTY, — The second edition of the Marin County Vegan Chef Challenge is bringing back a month-long celebration of plant-based culinary innovation to the region in May.
The event invites local chefs to showcase their creativity through exclusive vegan dishes, while diners are encouraged to explore the region’s diverse food scene.
Throughout the month of May, patrons can visit participating locations, sample unique menu items, and rate their favorites online to help crown the challenge winners.
A wide array of local favorites has already committed to the 2026 challenge:
Organizers of the challenge said that any local business interested in adding new vegan options is still welcome to apply through the official website.
"There's never been a better time to try vegan," said Aurora Doyon, one of the challenge organizers.
Beyond the competition, the challenge promotes long-term lifestyle shifts via the "10 Weeks to Vegan" program. This free, guided resource provides participants with nutritional tips, recipes, and product recommendations, helping them replace one animal product per week with a plant-based alternative.
The initiative is hosted by Vegan Outreach, an international nonprofit dedicated to reducing animal suffering through education, and Vegan Marin, a local Facebook community focused on expanding plant-based accessibility. This year’s festivities are sponsored by Vegan Distribution and Jinka.
Winners of the Vegan Chef Challenge will be announced in early June.
