LAGUNITAS, CA — A black pug that had been missing for three days was safely rescued from a deep hole at a construction site Monday in Lagunitas, Marin County firefighters said.
Around 7 p.m. Monday, Marin County Fire crews responded to reports of a dog trapped inside a hole at a construction site.
Firefighters found Shadow, a black pug, stuck in a hole approximately 20 feet deep and 3 to 4 feet in diameter within a larger excavation area, according to Marin County Fire.
Using techniques learned through cross-training with Urban Search and Rescue teams, firefighters conducted a confined-space rescue to reach the dog.
Crews were able to safely remove Shadow from the hole and reunite him with his family, fire officials said.
"Every call is different, and we're proud to use our specialized rescue training to help both people and pets when they need us most," Marin County Fire said.
Fire officials credited the successful rescue to the teamwork and training of responding crews.
