MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin County is asking residents and business owners to help shape the future of the Tam Junction area through a public webinar and online survey as officials begin planning for improvements to the busy commercial hub.
The webinar will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, and will provide an overview of the Tam Junction Placemaking Study, which covers the Tam Junction, Manzanita and Shoreline areas in unincorporated southern Marin.
An online survey will remain open through noon Aug. 24.
County staff said public feedback will help define the study's scope before consultants are hired to begin work next year.
"Once we gather community priorities and know what's most essential for this project to cover, we'll be in good shape to draft a thoughtful and thorough request for proposals that we can publicize to qualified consultants," said Sarah Jones, Marin County community development agency director.
The study comes as Tam Junction has grown into a popular destination for restaurants and other businesses, bringing increased traffic and raising concerns about congestion, pedestrian and bicycle safety, parking and emergency access.
County officials also plan to examine flooding and sea level rise challenges affecting the Shoreline Highway corridor and nearby waterfront areas, which can become impassable during winter storms and king tides.
The webinar will cover information previously presented during community meetings in April. Feedback from those meetings highlighted concerns about roadway safety, gaps in pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, accessibility, parking and visual clutter.
The Board of Supervisors is expected to consider authorizing the study's work plan later this fall, with the full placemaking study anticipated to begin in early 2027.
