Vegetation Fire Burning Along Highway In Novato: FD

NOVATO, CA — A vegetation fire burning along northbound Highway 101 just north of the town of Novato broke out Sunday evening as firefighters worked to contain the flames.

At around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, Novato fire officials reported they had stopped forward progress on the 4-acre blaze, named the Petaluma Fire.

As of 8:15 p.m., the fire was burning near Highway 101 and San Antonio Road, north of Novato and south of the WM Redwood Landfill, with a moderate rate of spread, fire officials said.

The fire was moving toward a nearby solar farm, and an additional four engines and a water tender were requested, authorities said.

Crews reported a road on the fire's western side was helping contain the blaze.
