Today's riddle: Why do Norway's navy ships all have barcodes? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. A Major Sweep Just Led To 6 Arrests In Novato, Here's What Police Found (patch.com) — Novato residents are learning more about a recent multi-agency sweep that targeted people on parole or probation in the city, resulting in six arrests. Novato police and partner agencies say they seized drugs, paraphernalia and a semi-automatic handgun, and all suspects were booked into Marin County Jail for alleged supervision violations.
2. Novato adopts economic development plan (pressdemocrat.com) — Novato has approved its first-ever 10-year economic development strategic plan, laying out concrete steps to attract business, revitalize downtown and commercial corridors, and treat housing as key economic infrastructure. Backed by new city funding and shaped by extensive community input, the plan calls for actions like modernizing commercial codes, forming a business team at City Hall, and putting historic properties back into productive use.
3. Mercer Islanders speak at 'Rare Family Day' (mi-reporter.com) — Novato hosted Ultragenyx's annual "Rare Family Day" on Oct. 2, drawing hundreds of families affected by rare diseases for free activities, support, and a Star Wars–themed keynote by Casey and Effie Parks. The event, held here for 11 years, connects patients, caregivers, and researchers, highlighting both the challenges of rare disorders and the community built around them.
4. Marin-Sonoma bike-sharing program extended for 3 years (marinij.com) — Novato riders will see the Redwood Bikeshare program continue at the San Marin SMART station after officials approved more than $2 million to extend and expand the service for three years. With low-cost e-bike rentals, growing ridership, and new equity memberships, the program aims to make SMART and other transit options easier to reach, even as Southern Marin leaders push for future expansion southward.
5. Preps of the week: Redwood stays hot with win over Vintage (marinij.com) — Novato athletes had a big week, with Archie Williams shutting out Novato in football, San Marin hosting a key volleyball match in town, and Hornets star Zoie Halsing piling up kills and digs in tournament play. Several other Marin schools are highlighted, but Novato players feature in standout performances across football, volleyball and flag football.
