NOVATO, CA — A Novato teen posted a video of him with a gun on social media, leading to his arrest Friday in Novato, police said.
The detective recognized Christopher Diaz, 18, of Novato, in the video and knew he was on Marin County probation. The firearm appeared to be loaded and fitted with a high-capacity magazine, according to police.
On Friday, Novato police investigators and a Marin County probation officer contacted Diaz at his home in southern Novato and conducted a probation search of a vehicle he had recently driven.
With help from NPD K-9 Koda, investigators found a firearm and two loaded magazines hidden inside the front passenger seat, police said. The firearm appeared to match the one shown in the social media video.
Diaz was booked into Marin County Jail on charges related to illegal firearm possession, delaying a peace officer and possession of marijuana by someone under 21.
