Boy, 14, Hit by Car in Front of Novato High School

The boy was knocked down but was not injured, police said.

A 14-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle while crossing Arthur Street in front of Novato High School Thursday afternoon, a Novato police lieutenant said.

The high school student was in a crosswalk when he was hit around 3 p.m., Lt. John McCarthy said.

The boy was knocked down but was not injured or transported to a hospital and the driver was not cited, McCarthy said.

The Novato Fire Protection District also responded to the incident, spokeswoman Sandy Wargo said.

Wargo said the close call is a reminder for everyone not to assume the driver sees them in a crosswalk.

Pedestrians should make eye contact with the driver who might be distracted, Wargo said.
