Caregiving trends in Hollywood films

It is becoming more common to live longer and longer. While this may give you more time to win at fantasy football and delve into addictive reality television it also results in more and more of the population taking care of their own family members. Family caregiving is something that is becoming more prevalent and this is acknowledge by the recent influx of caregiving films. Caregiving in media is now being displayed and even becoming part of pop culture in many ways.

The following films do not just show the loving side of family caregiving, but they also delve into the harsh truths. You get a unique perspective with almost every film and get to see how profound the experience can really be.

August: Osage County:
A look at the lives of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose paths have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Oklahoma house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.
Dallas Buyers Club: In 1985 Dallas, electrician and hustler Ron Woodroof works around the system to help AIDS patients get the medication they need after he is himself diagnosed with the disease.
Nebraska: This Oscar nominated film is about an aging, booze-addled father who makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million-dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize.
